Dry Hill DH – Round 2 – Race Recap

Stacked Field – Dry Course – Laying out on the line

Round two of the North West Cup Downhill series brings us once again to Port Angeles. This time, a stacked field of DH racers from across Canada and the United Staes come together to test their skills and compete against one another.

With the World Cup DH series just around the corner, several World Cup DH racers, such as Finn Iles and Mark Wallace competed to brush off the cobwebs and prepare for the first big race of the season.

The Track

The second round of the race presented a striking contrast to the wet and muddy conditions experienced in the first round. As the track rapidly dried up, a challenging track emerged, characterized by the formation of large ruts that forced every rider into a single line. As race day arrived, the track transformed into a dry surface, revealing new rocks and loose gravel, which added an element of unpredictability. These ever-changing conditions proved treacherous for many riders, resulting in numerous crashes during both seeding and race runs.

Results

It was an eventful race with a stacked field of Canadian and American racers. Tegan Cruz and Finn Iles, who were the top 2 seeded racers, unfortunately crashed during their runs, giving an opportunity for Squamish local Coen Skrypnik to take the win.

Julian, who obtained a registration transfer from Magnus Manson, joined the race at the last minute. Julian competed in the Cat 1 U16 field, which was steadily growing in size.

Henry participated in the race against the best downhill racers from across North America. Despite the tough competition, he managed to secure an impressive 5th place finish.

In the Pro Men’s category, Dean Tenant showcased his sprinting skills and secured a respectable 20th place. On the other hand, Spencer Young had a significant crash that forced him out of the race. However, the good news is that Spencer is healing quickly and is expected to make a full recovery in time for the next race.
